Bring Spring into your Kitchen: DIY Vintage Jars

decoupage kitchen jars1

Most of us give a second life at the empty glass jars, more permanent I would rather say, putting into them stuff and then hiding them into kitchen cabinets.

A friend of mine taught me how to make kitchen jars look brighter and more beautiful by using the decoupage technique.  It’s super easy and so fun to do!!!

All you gonna need is: decoupage kitchen jars2Empty jars, decoupage glue, a brush, scissors, patterned napkins, primer, acrylic paints (in the colours you like) and matte varnish.

We picked this pink rose napkin:decoupage kitchen jars4

What you have to do is:

Step 1:  Coat the surface with primer.

Step 2: Apply the acrylic paint in the colors of your choice. Allow to dry.

Step 3: Meanwhile, cut out the parts you gonna use  from the napkin.

Step 4: Divide the napkin by removing all the white layers. It is only the patterned top layer of the napkin you gonna use.

Step 5: Add decoupage glue on the surface you want to place the napkin.

Step 6: Lay the cut napkin piece over the applied with glue spot. Place carefully the pattern from top outward (pressing with your fingers) in order to avoid air bubbles.

Step 7: Add a second layer of decoupage glue all over the napkin. Allow to dry.

Step 8: Apply a coat of varnish all over the jar. Allow to dry.
